The Birth of the Parent Connection
In 1980 on the campus of Scripps Memorial Hospital 50 new parents and their one-month-old babies gathered to participate in the hospital’s two-part class called adjusting to parenthood. One new mom, Cindy Hudson, had come to San Diego from the Bay Area and knew of an organization called Las Madres that offered playgroups, educational classes and social events. She approached the class instructor with the idea to expand “adjusting to parenthood” beyond the classroom.

h the hospital’s support and participation of the original 18 sets of parents, Las Madres of San Diego was born. Later renamed the Parent Connection, the organization has grown and changed over its 30 years, but remains true to its original objective of helping families adjust to parenthood with the help and support of educational classes and playgroup friendships.
